What is Flange Facing?

Flange facing is the act of machining the sealing surface of a flange. The sealing surfaces of flanges can become corroded or damaged from a variety of factors and this corrosion or damage can affect the integrity of the bolted connection on the flange, risking a critical leak. Flanges can be machined with different surface finishes to match the required specification for the piping system the flange is connected to. It is critical that flanges have a clean, uniform sealing surface with a gramophone finish to ensure that the joint does not leak. Machining flanges in place with a portable flange facing machine is the most cost effective and efficient way to resurface damged or corroded flanges.  Our patented ID clamping system on the Flangehog allows not only for the fastest, most rigid setup in its class but also gives the largest working range of any hand-powered tool in its class.
